I’ve had several experiences of loss. The first time was just devastating. I had such severe depression and was so overwhelmed with the ‘idea’ of starting from zero. I wasn’t even able to save keepsakes or even clothes. But with the help of extremely kind new friends, they helped me.
it’s funny….very little of my current stuff is new. I am still using all the items that friends gave me. I learned several important lessons from these events. That I needed to change my perspective about material belongings and the benefits of a minimized lifestyle. All the items I still use were given out of true care and compassion. That means SO much more than sterile new items. New is fine, and sure it would be nice to have all brand new things. Don’t get me wrong. But keeping a more compact and simplified life, has really helped me to see what is truly valuable.
I didn’t do this post to come across preachy or judgmental. Please don’t think that. Lifestyle is a personal choice, and it’s not my place to say anything against someone’s individual choice. You do you. I just wanted to impart that the wounds you might be feeling, will pass. Especially when you see your fellow residents giving to those who are just overwhelmed at the moment. It changes your outlook.
